Parental Rights Division

James Queenan, Chief Parental Rights Division

Parental rights attorneys, who specialize in abuse, neglect, dependency, and termination proceedings, represent parents in jeopardy of losing custody of their children to the state. Providence County is served by attorneys having offices at 160 Pine Street, Providence, RI 02903. Newport, Washington and Kent Counties are served by an attorney whose office is at the McGrath Courthouse, Route 1, Wakefield, RI 02879. Representation is provided by the parental rights division from arraignment through the conclusion of all proceedings, including any reviews which occur until all children involved reach the age of majority or the Family Court relinquishes jurisdiction. Public Defender attorneys represent clients in administrative proceedings before the Department for Children, Youth and Families, if the client is financially eligible for representation.
